Last week we started a new unit in gym (Hockey).This week we made cards for veterans to wish them a merry Christmas, and for Ms. Brenda because she was in a car accident. We also did the pacer test in gym class. We started a new unit in Wordly Wise and science. We also started  coding lessons last week. It is really fun doing coding. In our book Wonder Auggie got bullied by Eddie, a 7th grader at the nature retreat. We finished the book, and the ending was great!  In music we are playing Jingle Bells, Jolly Old St. Nicholas, We Wish You A Merry Christmas, and Good King Wenceslas.We will go to all the classes next week to play our Christmas carols on our recorders In Spanish we started a food project. It was a very exciting and thrilling week.

This week  was a fun week because on Wednesday, it was pajama day, movie day, and no homework day. We could choose between two movies , The Sandlot and the second one was Kangaroo Jack. This week's gym was speed ball. Today's score was 2  for black and 4 for red. This week in class it was fun because we got very little homework. We were surprised that we had a principal of the day. Last week was an exciting week! On Tuesday it was National Young Readers Day! So we could bring blankets, pillows, stuffed animals,and books! And we watch a movie and we could bring a drink like Gatorade, water, soda,and juice boxes and the movie was..... The Princess Bride
The best part of Wednesday is having gym right in the morning and at the end of the day we had Star Partners!
On Friday we had gym then art and right before lunch we painted "How Great Thou Art" poem and you could paint a sunset, some trees. This week Monday we had Spanish and we worked on our Picasso project . On Tuesday we had Team Building in the gym which has never happened before! We had a contest where 2 people had to hook each other's arms and touch our bellies. We had to move together across the gym as a team. The next activity was where there was group of people who had to untangle each other. The next activity involved shoes so this is how it works- you take off your shoes and put them in the middle of the gym and it was STINKY!! So it was  girls vs. boys and you had to start on one side of the gym.  You had to run to the middle and find one of your shoes.  You had to run to the side of the gym to put your shoe on, and then go back for the second shoe.   The girls won. On Friday we had gym and we played speed ball that has a mix of soccer, basketball ,and little bit of  football. Then we had art and we had to present our project.

This week was very fun, but short. In gym class we played football. It was very fun and cool, but the white team did not win... we only had one gym class.  Next week white will win. Also we had 2 tests and 1 quiz, 1 test was in Science and the other was in Religion and the quiz in math and everyone did well. Last week we had a Halloween party it was fun. Last week we also finished are American flag palet. It is very nice. Next we did music. In music we watched 2 YouTube videos. They were old cartoons and they were good, and we watched a reaction video.

Last week we had some crazy fun. The first thing we did was a religion game. the Sacrament circle. We all won because we knew it so well. Right now in social studies we are doing a state project. There were a lot of different states to chose from. We all are learning a gigantic amount about our states.  In Spanish we are doing a Simon say game with body part. In art we are doing an art project. I promise you we are doing most of it in are art class. Book report are due on Nov 8th.

Hi,we had so much fun this week.On Monday we started our rondo project in music. In Spanish we played Simon says, but in Spanish.This helped us to learn the body parts in Spanish.

 On Tuesday we started are Picasso  projects that we're doing in Spanish class. Also we sanded our pallet to make an American flag for the fall fundraiser on November 12. On Wednesday we started our flag football unit in gym class. Boo! We decorated our class room with Halloween decorations on Thursday.andalso had a wonderful mass hosted by the other 5th grade class.

!In math class we started Fractone on the smart board.The champion of each class will face each other and the winner's homeroom gets a pizza party! On Friday we stared painting our American flag for the fundraiser.

This week went by so fast! I guess time flies your having fun. Tonight we have our family fun dance don't miss it! [:

This week was a GREAT week! We learned about sacraments, compound subjects and predicates, and we had a pacer test in gym.

The pacer test is a test where you have to run 20 m. across the gym in the time given. If you make 2 mistakes then your test is over. A mistake may be not making it across the gym in time. If you can't continue the test because you're so tired, then you can stop taking the test. 

This week we started using this new program called Raz Kids. Raz Kids is a program where you can read books and take tests about the book. In music class we are making rondos. A rondo is a song in ABACA form. We had an English test today and a science test on Wednesday.  We are starting a new science project on animal classification.
 This week in Social Studies we learned about types of Indians. Today in gym we played 8-base kickball. In 8-base kickball you have to run the bases like normal, but then you as the name suggests you must run back the other way. More than one person can be on a base at the same time.
 For the soles walk we had to make some sort of spirit item to represent our school during the soles walk. Our class made a windsock and  a shaker. The 7th graders made balloon hats and they won, so everyone representing St. Matthias School in the Soles Walk will have a balloon hat to wear.
In Wonder we just finished reading from Via's point of view in the story. The next point of view we will be reading from is Summer's. On Quizlet we played a new game called Quizlet Live. In Quizlet live you are put on a team with your fellow classmates and whoever has the right answer to the question has to click it to score points for their team.
It was a great, fun week of learning!

This week was crazy plus unexpected.  This class learn a lot of new things like algebra. We read more of Wonder, and got a lot of HOMEWORK !!!!! This year is going to be a long year, a really long YEAR.

Plus this amazing class will have some great funny year moments. We are a bulldog and we stick together.  We get along so well!

We learned from Scholastic News about the long history Pompeii's final hours.  We played kick ball against Mr. Peterson class for gym since Mr. Spiess was out sick.

This week we did loads of things. On Monday we started the day off by doing Religion then we started our specialties Music and Spanish. After Music and Spanish we had Reading we learned about our book report due on October 7. Then we had English it was pretty fun finally before Lunch we had Math. Finally we had lunch every body loves lunch after lunch we have recess. After Recess we had Science we did a really fun Science experiment. After that we did Social Studies and Reading.

On Tuesday we did Religion then we had Spanish it was really fun we got to pick a Spanish  name. Then after Spanish we had English and  Math Mr.Peterson is a really fun teacher.Then we had Reading every Reading class we read Wonder. Then we had Lunch and Recces it was so much fun! And then Social Studies and then Science.It was time for Library,but we didn't have it because the computer was down and we couldn't check out books. And then Health! It was really fun  we read Nutritional Facts from our snacks. 

On Wednesday we begin the day with gym and we started learning how to throw Frisbee.  

On Friday we had gym and art to start the day.  We did our bread lab in science, and practiced collecting data accurately by measuring the temperature of cold, room temperature, and hot water.  We also had our Soles for Education pep rally in the gym and our practice walk around the playground, cemetery, and courtyard, and back.  When we got back to class we enjoyed Popsicles that Joe shared for his birthday treat.

9/11 is coming up and we are learning all about it. From terrorists hijacking planes to the brave heroes that saved hundreds of lives. It was a very tragic day.

This week we wrote the Earth's shortest stories! We like to call it the six word memoir. Here are some examples: Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Drama, Hip-hop, DANCE.   I am a curious science GEEK! They were so cool to make.

We are starting a daily reading calendar for 20 minutes for 5 days every week. Some people read over 20 minutes.

On Wednesday we met our kindergarten star partners. We help them with projects and read to them too.

We also took our religion class to care for the garden by pulling weeds and harvesting all sorts of veggies for the food pantry. We picked green beans, tomatoes, peppers, butternut squash, spaghetti squash, and kale.  

This week was so fun! Can't wait till next week!!!!!!![:

This week was amazing.  On Tuesday we did a team-building and it really fun and wet! The other class did it too., Our time was about 5:00 and Mr. Peterson class got about 7:00. On Wednesday we had our first gym class and Mr. Spiess said we have to use the locker room, and he showed us them. At the end of the day we had star buddy but because we are sharing K5 buddies with Mr. Peterson's class, they went, and we will go next week. We are reading a book called Wonder.  Ask your child about it!

What a crazy first day of school it was-  Lots of organizational things to do so that we are ready to get into the academics.  The heavy rain caused a bit of a flood, and it also forced us to change our plans for an outdoor health class.  This allowed me to show the class Quizlet.  Look for more information soon on that.

The students are delightful!  I am looking forward to an exciting year together.

Welcome to our blog.  Please bookmark this website so that you can refer to it frequently.  I will have our homework posted daily as well as important dates to know.  We will also include what is happening in the classroom and pictures of our class learning, working, and playing together.

Welcome to 5th Grade!
I am very excited to be your teacher this year.  I have lots of great activities planned for us to learn together and grow in our faith, academics, and character.

My name is Mrs. Caporale.  I've been teaching since 1985 when I began at St. Josaphat Basilica School.  Since then I've taught grades 5-8, mostly science and English.  I am very happy to be here at St. Matthias School for several reasons.  The students here are fabulous, and the parents I've come to know are exceptional.  The staff here is second to none!

Some of my interests include reading, camping, swimming, and enjoying the outdoors.  My family includes my husband of 32 years and twin boys who are now 23 years old.  We spend time together at various sporting events, including Packer and Badger games.
